Big Ten Chess League

 

  • The season will run from September - May

  • A participant of the league must be a current student of the school at the beginning of the academic year, undergraduate or graduate.  

  • Each school may have 1 5-person varsity team with two replacements plus an unlimited number of optional jv members.

  • The varsity section will be run in a round robin team format whereas the jv section will be run as a swiss style individual tournament.

  • Any varsity board that is not filled by one of the two replacements will be considered a forfeit by the team

  • Each jv member will have 1 ½ point bye for the whole season, not to be used in the last game.

  • Time control will be G/120 with 5 second delay for all games

  • A maximum of two games per month with all games held on the weekend allowing for all people to make space in their schedule

  • All games will occur at 12 PM Central.

  • All games will be held online over chess.com.

  • If an alternate is replacing a team member, the notification must be put on chess.com at least a week before the match, notifying the new team member he/she will be playing

  • A player can claim a win by forfeit if their opponent has not connected with them on chess.com or is not on live chess by 30 minutes after the game start unless a difficulty is noted before 30 minutes after the game starts by the team leader.
